Famous Coffee in Hanoi
Cafe Giang in Hanoi is renowned for its signature Egg Coffee, a delightful concoction that combines rich coffee with creamy egg goodness. However, it’s important to note that this specialty coffee contains raw egg, adding a unique and indulgent twist to the traditional coffee experience.
This unique creation originated from wartime when condensed milk was scarce. To substitute the shortage, egg yolks was blended with sugar to create a creamy froth that was poured on top the underlying coffee. The result was delicious and became the signature drink at Cafe Giang.
There is a method to properly enjoy this coffee, Do not make the mistake I did! To learn this, you have to watch the video clip!
Do not drink this coffee with you have Egg Allergy!
If you have egg allergies, you should not try the Egg Coffee at Cafe Giang or similar establishments. Persons with egg allergy may find that they can tolerate eggs that are found in cakes or muffins. In fact, some egg allergic individuals may only react if they eat half boiled eggs or eggs over easy. The reason why this happens is that egg allergenicity changes by the degree it is cooked.
Raw egg is the most allergenic followed by fully cooked eggs and the least allergenic are eggs cooked in high temperatures for prolonged periods mixed in with wheat, sugar and other ingredients such as found in cakes or muffins.
The egg in the egg coffee is raw and despite it consisting mainly of egg yolk which is deemed less allergenic than egg whites, you can’t truly separate them, so I would classify egg coffee as containing the most allergenic form of egg.
