Blue Mansion is Antifungal

The Blue Mansion is the Cheong Fatt Tze mansion. This was a building that is built according to Chinese Feng Shui principles. The back of the house of higher than the front. The roof was designed to circulate rainwater through the house and drain into the air-well at the center of the house to symbolize wealth flowing internally. This house is now famous from the Crazy Rich Asians movie. Its unique feature is its color! It turns out that the blue indigo paint was super expensive at the time it was built. It was a clear statement of affluence! It also has anti fungal properties, very helpful in tropical humidity to prevent black mold.

Did you know that allergic fungal sinusitis is caused by sensitivity to molds? It is important to understand that there are many different triggers for sinusitis. In allergic fungal sinusitis, there is development of polyps and thick mucus. The sinus cavities are inflamed and filled with mucus that look like peanut butter and the patients often reports loss of smell. You will need to see an ENT surgeon to help clear and drain the sinuses, an Allergist/Immunologist can help manage the allergic inflammation. Allergy skin prick tests can be done to determine your allergic sensitization followed by Allergen Specific Immunotherapy to modify the allergic response. This treatment modality has been shown to be effective, summarized below:

“There is evidence to suggest that allergen specific immunotherapy to fungal allergens may be effective in the treatment of symptoms of AFS and may decrease the rate of postoperative exacerbations and further operations.”

The issue is that fungal reagents for testing and treatment are not standardized, so it is important to seek and use the best extracts that is available. Rest assured that The Allergic Immunology Clinic will continue to source and stock the best quality extracts available for testing and treatment. I hope there will be further industry advancement for better manufacturing and standardization of allergen extracts.
