📦 A Parcel on the Table
I got a WhatsApp message from the MSAI secretariat
“I’m dropping off a parcel for you”
I quickly typed my reply: “Sure, thank you very much”
And I quickly forgot all about it as I stepped into the consultation room to see my patient
In fact I only remembered the message when I saw the parcel on my table
I quickly dialed the telephone to apologize for not being able to receive the parcel in person
Then I tore open the wrapping, and found the plaque inside.
And here’s a photo of me with the plaque to share with you
I learned I’d been nominated by my peers and bestowed the title Honorary Fellow of the Malaysian Society of Allergy & Immunology, complete with an Honorary Professorship.
🎓 What’s in a Title?
What is a Professor?
Professor derives from Latin as a “person who professes publicly” or “teacher”
What does it mean for me?
- It means that I hope to have contributed in a little way to the field of Allergy and Immunology
- That I have served my patients to my best ability
- And that I can continue to deliver the best care possible to my patients
Why This Matters to Me
Medicine is never a solo journey. This plaque belongs to:
- My Teachers: Who sparked my curiosity and guided my early steps.
- My Colleagues: Who challenge me to stay sharp, share insights, and innovate.
- My Patients: Who trust me with their care—and teach me something new every day.
Recognizing that I am unable to do this alone
And I will continue to be taught and to humbly teach
Upholding the ideals of Professors before me and those that will come after me
🙏 Gratitude, Past and Future
This recognition isn’t the finish line—it’s a checkpoint.
“To everyone who’s taught me, supported me, or simply sat with me in the clinic when they needed answers: thank you. I commit to paying it forward—mentoring, listening, and advancing patient-centered care.”
