One of the unique Malaysian CNY culture is the Yee Sang! It consists of many colorful vegetables, pickles, fruits held together with a sticky dressing topped off with nuts and crunchy crackers. Each ingredient has a special meaning! There are so many variations of ingredients and taste that no Yee Sang is alike. During the Lou Hei, many wishes are shouted while the ingredients are tossed ever higher to symbolize ever higher achievements. One of my favourite Yee Sang is the one made by my parents. Usually, Cantonese mixed with English phrases will be shouted out. This year CNY day 3, we decided on doing an English version with a little bit of elegance courtesy of comedian Douglas Lim.
